Gala Sets Records
The Gatsby-themed anniversary party billed as Friendship Shelter’s Roaring 25 celebrated on Nov. 1 set records for both attendance and funds raised.
Colin Henderson was officially named founder of the shelter. “Colin has selflessly avoided that title for 25 years, but it has been his passion and his vision that have kept our organization strong and vital for all these years” proclaimed Executive director Dawn Price.
Gala co-chairs Keiko Sakamoto and Faye Hezar along with a committee of generous philanthropists presided over a high spirited evening which raised nearly $440,000.
All vendors generously discounted or donated their services including Bling Divas Entertainment, Paul Fenner Floral Design, HEILBrice and Elite Productions.
Graduates of the shelter were introduced and O.C. United Way’s Chief Executive Max Gardner and Laguna Beach dentist Dr. Elli Abtahi were honored.
“Friendship Shelter could not have made the strides it has if not for the community’s commitment and compassion in helping homeless individuals lift themselves up,” Sakamoto said.
